New car launches around the corner

2017 has seen a fair share of high-profile launches from Tata’s new Hexa crossover and Tigor compact sedan to Maruti’s all-new Ignis, Dzire and its first hot hatchback, the Baleno RS. International automakers too, have launched a few cars in India such as the much-awaited Audi diesel A4, the Jaguar diesel XE and the all-new Mercedes E-class.

However, we are only in the middle of the year and there are still many more launches yet to come. Tata plans to set foot into the compact SUV segment with the Nexon, BMW is ready to replace its ageing 5-series with an all-new model and Ford is set to facelift the EcoSport towards the end of the year.

Here is a look at some of the new launches headed your way:

Mercedes E 220d (June 2)

The E 220d will be the more affordable, entry-level diesel variant of the E-class. The car will also debut Mercedes’ new, modular 2.0-litre, four-cylinder diesel engine that replaced the automaker’s 2.1-litre diesel unit globally. The new unit will develop 194hp and 400Nm of torque and come paired with the automakers’ nine-speed automatic gearbox as standard. Expect prices to be close to that of the current petrol model.

On the diesel front, the car will be offered with two engines – a 190hp, 2.0-litre diesel engine badged 520d, and the more powerful 256hp, 3.0-litre in-line six-cylinder diesel unit badged 530d that is likely to be available only in the M Sport trim. Expect equipment such as gesture control for the iDrive system, adaptive dampers and a remote parking function to be offered on select variants.
