While the launch of the all-new Swift is not until the Auto Expo next year, the all-new Dzire is set to arrive in India in the coming months. The third-gen car will get a significant styling revision from the current model, both inside and out, and is expected to offer more equipment than before as well. Maruti dealers have unofficially started accepting bookings for the new car with the booking amount varying from Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000.
Here are the five things to know:
Shares exterior styling bits with the upcoming 2018 Swift
As with its predecessors, the new Dzire will share common styling elements with the Swift, though there will be notable tweaks to help give the car its own identity. Common elements appear to be the bonnet, headlamps and front fenders, though the bumper is noticeably different from the new Swift revealed internationally. The grille is huge and will be laden with chrome bits on the higher trims while the sedan styling now features a better integrated boot.
Expected to get an upmarket cabin
As with the exterior, the cabin too is set to share common elements such as the dashboard and seats, though there will be notable differences along with focus on providing a premium feel. As per spy shots, while the dashboard is similar to the new Swift, the centre air-con vents and instrument cluster are new. As before, the car gets a dual-tone interior, along with faux-wood inserts throughout the cabin and the steering wheel to lend a more premium feel. This, though, may change on the final product.
Likely offers a fair bit of kit
The Dzire is also expected to offer a fair bit of kit with spy images revealing equipment such as alloy wheels, the popular SmartPlay touchscreen infotainment system, auto climate control and projector headlamps with LED daytime running lights.
Could be based on existing platform
While there are few details available on the car’s underpinnings, the third-gen Dzire could likely be based on the current model’s platform rather than moving over to the platform from the Baleno that also underpins the all-new Swift. Also with pricing being a major factor in the segment, it could be likely that Maruti has opted for a major overhaul rather than a grounds-up new sedan.
Engines to be carried forward
The new Dzire is expected to carry forward the existing set of engines from the current model. This will include the 1.2-litre K-series petrol motor and the tried and tested 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine. Both units are expected to be paired with a five-speed manual gearbox as standard, though as per the spy images of the cabin, automatic variants will also be offered.
New Dzire Tour
The current-gen Dzire will be transformed into the taxi-friendly Dzire tour. It is expected to be sold in diesel and for the first time in petrol and CNG options too.
