Hyundai has taken the wraps of the second-generation ix35 SUV at the ongoing Shanghai motor show in China. The new ix35’s design is in line with other newer Hyundais, with a prominent hexagonal grille and more mature styling.
Compared to the older SUV, the ix35’s front fascia is all new with sleeker headlamps, prominent chrome-finished hexagonal grille and a new bumper with prominent air vents housing the fog lamps.
From the sides, the window line is now completely new while the wheel arches are more prominent, along with fewer creases running down the length of the car. Rear styling hasn’t yet been seen, though the new ix35 gets a wraparound rear windscreen.
The cabin hasn’t yet been shown to the public, though we can expect a design in line with other newer Hyundais.
Under the hood, the ix35 will likely carry forward the engines from the previous-gen model.
While it's uncertain if the ix35 will come to India, Hyundai has big plans for the market which will see the launch of eight new models by 2020, including three in new segments. The automaker has plans to launch the all-new Verna in the second half of the year with the automaker’s first standalone hybrid, the Ioniq, set to arrive on Indian shores during the auto expo next year. The carmaker is also set to make a push towards hybrid powertrains with the new Verna expected to be the first of its models to receive mild-hybrid technology.
On the SUV front, the automaker is eyeing a new compact SUV sitting under the Creta based on the Carlino concept showcased at last year’s auto expo.
