Mahindra XUV 3XO: performance, fuel efficiency

As per the latest teaser, the XUV 3XO will be able to dash from 0-60kph in 4.5 seconds. However, we’ll only be able to confirm the number once we get to drive it following the global debut. For reference, our Venue vs Sonet road test revealed that the 120hp 1.2-litre turbo-petrol-DCTversions of the two achieve the same feat in 5.30 seconds and 5.87 seconds respectively.

Furthermore, the teaser confirms that the updated compact SUV will offer multiple drive modes, similar to the XUV700. While the larger SUV gets three drive modes – namely Zip, Zap and Zoom – the teaser suggests that the XUV 3XO could get the former two.

Mahindra has also revealed that the XUV 3XO will offer an ARAI-certified fuel efficiency figure of 20.1kpl, however, the figure will likely be for the diesel powertrain, not the turbo-petrol engines. In comparison, the Tata Nexon diesel as a fuel efficiency of up to 24.07kpl, while the Kia Sonet diesel with iMT is rated at 22.3kpl.

That said, the XUV 3XO will continue with the same three engine options – the 110hp, 1.2-litre turbo-petrol; the 131hp, 1.2-litre direct-injection turbo-petrol; and the 117hp, 1.5-litre diesel. The 131hp turbo-petrol engine will gain a new Aisin-sourced 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.

Mahindra XUV 3XO: feature upgrade, price, rivals

The new XUV 3XO teaser reveals its fully-digital TFT instrument cluster in all its glory. The driver’s display will measure 10.25-inches in size, while the car will also borrow the XUV400’s 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Also on offer will be a first-in-class panoramic sunroof, which will possibly make it the most affordable SUV in India with this feature.

Keeping in mind all the changes and the additional features, the XUV 3XO will be priced higher than the outgoing XUV300. It will continue to take on the likes of Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Kia Sonet, Maruti Brezza among other compact SUVs.
