Bajaj Chetak electric scooter: price, variants explained

The Bajaj Chetak line-up recently expanded with the launch of the new entry-level offering, the Chetak 2901. The other variants of this e-scooter are Urbane and Premium. Here’s a list of each variant’s main features to help you decide which of these three is right for you.

Bajaj Chetak line-up: differences in battery, range, charging time

Among this trio, the Chetak 2901 has the smallest battery capacity of 2.88kWh, but its claimed IDC range of 123km is higher than the mid-spec Urbane’s 113km figure. In fact, even with its larger 3.2kWh battery, the Premium variant’s 126km range is only 3km longer than the 2901’s, which seems to eke out more kilometres thanks to its lower top speed of 63kph.

Unlike the Premium variant with an onboard charger, the Chetak 2901 and Urbane have an offboard charger. The base 2901 has the longest charging time of 6 hours to recharge the battery from zero to full; it is 4 hours and 50 minutes for Urbane and 4 hours and 30 minutes for Premium.

Bajaj Chetak line-up: differences in features, top speed

Both the Chetak 2901 and the Urbane variants use the colour LCD dash that was earlier on the Premium model. While they use the same display, the 2901 gets ‘Limited’ connectivity compared to the Urbane’s ‘Full’ connectivity. The difference here isn’t clear on the Chetak website, and we have reached out to the company for clarity. We will update this story when we have more information.

The Premium variant uses a colour TFT display that gives you access to navigation prompts and notification alerts once you pair your smartphone to the dash via the Chetak app. The TecPac is an optional extra on all the variants and brings in Sports mode, Reverse mode, hill-hold functionality and extra connectivity options on the display for the respective variant. The TecPac is priced at Rs 3,000, Rs 8,000 and Rs 9,000 for the 2901, Urbane and Premium, respectively.

The 2901 has the lowest top speed of 63kph, even with the TecPac installed. Urbane’s top speed is 63kph without the TecPac and 73kph with the TecPac. The Premium variant’s top speed is 73 kph, irrespective of the Tecpac.

What is common between all the variants is that they all have a metal body. Only the Urbane and Premium get the key fob and, hence, keyless ignition, whereas the 2901 uses a physical key. The Premium is the only variant to get sequential indicators, and it uses a front disc brake; the other two have drum brakes at both ends.

When it comes to colour options, the 2901 has a leg up on the other two and can be had in six paint schemes. Some of these are very bright and vibrant colours and give the Chetak 2901 a very youthful look. The Urbane is available in four colours, and the Premium in just three.

    Bajaj Chetak line-up: price difference

The base Chetak 2901 is priced at Rs 95,998, which pits it right against the TVS iQube 2.2. The Chetak Urbane, at a Rs 1.23 lakh tag, is in the Ather Rizta Z 2.9 ballpark. The top-spec Chetak Premium, at Rs 1.47 lakh, is placed close to the TVS iQube ST 3.4; with a similar budget, you can also purchase a Yamaha Aerox 155

    All prices ex-showroom, Delhi.
