Aprilia SR 160 spied with digital instrumentation

Aprilia has been spotted testing an updated version of its SR 160 featuring fully digital instrumentation.

    • Appears the same as the SXR's display
    • Rest of the scooter seems unchanged
    • Could be offered as a variant

While Aprilia's SXR models pack in a rather stylish and informative fully digital display, the SR models built on the same platform continue to soldier on with far more basic semi-digital instrument clusters. That could be set to change soon, since Aprilia has now been spotted testing an SR model equipped with a fully digital display.

While it's rather difficult to tell which SR this is, it seems more logical for Aprilia to introduce this feature on the more expensive SR 160 first, perhaps followed by the smaller SR 125 at a later stage. As for the cluster itself, it seems to be identical in shape and size to that seen on the SXR 125 and SXR 160 and is likely to feature an identical layout too.

This means it will now get a digital speedometer and tachometer, as well as trip information, real-time fuel-consumption data and even a log of the top speed reached. At the time of launching the SXR models, Aprilia promised the introduction of Bluetooth connectivity at a later stage. Now with the SR 160 receiving the same hardware, it too could become eligible for Bluetooth connectivity in the future.

It is possible that Aprilia may offer the fully digital cluster as an option or a variant on the SR 160, as it currently does with the SR 125, which has two variants: one with fully analogue instrumentation and another with a semi-digital design. The SR 160 currently costs Rs 1.08 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), and with the addition of this digital cluster the price is likely to increase by  around Rs 3,000 to Rs 5,000.
