Aprilia Tuareg 660 revealed

The third 660cc Aprilia ticks all the right ADV boxes.

Aprilia has given us a quick first look at the upcoming Tuareg 660 adventure bike.

Aprilia has already given us two 660cc models in the form of the RS 660 and Tuono 660, and it has now unveiled its third bike on the same platform – the Tuareg 660. While the Tuono and the RS are quite similar to each other, the Tuareg is a bigger departure from the template.

Aprilia Tuareg 660: engine

For starters, the state of tune of the 660cc parallel-twin engine has been drastically altered, and it now produces 80hp and 70Nm in the Tuareg, as opposed to the 100hp and 67Nm that it produces in the RS 660. The drop in peak power and slight increase in torque output indicates that the Tuareg should have a far more usable powerband with more grunt coming in at lower rpms, which is what you want on an ADV.

Aprilia Tuareg 660: underpinnings

It ticks other ADV boxes too. The wheels are wire-spoke units in a 21-inch/18-inch size combo, and wrapped in block-pattern tyres, while suspension travel is 240mm at both ends. Aprilia also says that suspension is adjustable at both ends, but doesn’t give any further details about the degree of adjustability. Ground clearance also appears to be generous, and the Tuareg sports a sump guard too.

At 187kg (dry), the Tuareg weighs as much as you’d expect an ADV of this size to weight. It will cross the 200kg mark once its 18 litre fuel tank is full. Holding everything together is a trellis frame, and front brake calipers come from Brembo.

Aprilia Tuareg 660: design and features

The Tuareg comes with all the bells and whistles that you’d expect from a new bike in 2021, including LED lighting, a TFT dash, 4 riding modes and an APRC electronics suite. Styling is rather unique, with a standalone headlight unit sat underneath a large windscreen, giving the Tuareg a minimalist fascia. There’s no beak, but the sump guard, knuckle guards and high-mounted exhaust do give the bike a rugged look.

Having now given us our first look at the Tuareg 660, we expect Aprilia to announce international pricing and full specifications pretty soon, following which it will most likely come to India as a CBU at a later stage. Expect a price tag in the Rs 13 lakh region once it arrives.
