BS6 Suzuki Gixxer range launched starting at Rs 1.12 lakh

Suzuki has launched the Gixxer, Gixxer SF and Gixxer SF MotoGP edition as BS6 models. The Gixxer now costs Rs 1.12 lakh, which is around Rs 12,000 more than the BS4-ready model. The Gixxer SF, meanwhile, has also witnessed a similar price hike and it now costs Rs 1.22 lakh. The BS6 Gixxer SF MotorGP edition is priced at Rs 1.23 lakh.

When Suzuki launched the updated Gixxer in July 2019, it came with a Rs 12,000 price hike. This motorcycle was already fuel-injected which is why we weren’t expecting a substantial update on the BS6-compliant model. However, Suzuki has increased the price by another Rs 12,000, which means the Gixxer has gone up by Rs 24,000 in the last two years – a massive 27.2 percent increase.

Both the Gixxer and Gixxer SF are powered by the same 155cc, fuel-injected, air-cooled, SOHC, single-cylinder engine. In BS6 form, this engine makes 13.6hp at 8,000rpm and 13.8Nm of torque at 6,000rpm. This is noticeably lower than the BS4 models’ 14.1hp/14Nm. Suzuki hasn't mentioned any other changes to the updated units.

Commenting on the launch of Bharat Stage 6 Gixxer range, Koichiro Hirao, managing director, Suzuki Motorcycle India said, “We feel proud to announce the launch of our BS6-compliant Gixxer series, ahead of the regulation deadline. Both BS6-compliant Gixxer SF and Gixxer, designed keeping the Indian customers in mind, have become even more environmentally friendly without compromising on the overall power and performance.”

At this price, the Suzuki Gixxer costs significantly more than the BS6 Yamaha FZ, that has a starting price of Rs 99,200 and BS6 TVS Apache RTR 160 4V, which starts at Rs 1 lakh.
