The KTM RC 390, currently in its second generation in India, is slated to receive an update this year. The updated bike has been spotted testing under wraps overseas. The new generation draws design inspiration from KTM’s track bike, the RC 8C, and shares its engine and cycle parts with the 390 Duke.

The RC 390 sports a new streamlined design for its single-piece fairing, with a single projector headlight in the centre, where the larger RC 8C would have its air intake. The rear section now sports a sleeker design, with integrated tail-light and indicators. Notably, while the outgoing KTM RC 390 has a very committed riding position, the spy shots reveal slight modifications in this aspect, with a relaxed upper body position. However, the lower body position seems to remain unchanged on the test mule.

The next-generation RC 390 is expected to carry over the LC4c engine from the updated KTM 390 Duke, replacing the 373cc motor with a 399cc one. Currently, this engine produces 46hp and 39Nm of torque in the current 390 Duke, which is an increase of 2.5hp and 2Nm over its predecessor. Additionally, the motor is paired with a 6-speed gearbox, which includes a bi-directional quickshifter and a slip-assist clutch. The test mule also featured a new underbelly exhaust, giving it a cleaner look compared to the outgoing model.

This engine is expected to be nestled within the same chassis, with the addition of an aluminium sub-frame just like the latest 390 Duke. KTM will likely carry over the suspension from the outgoing RC 390. Braking duties should be handled by the unchanged 320mm disc with a radially mounted calliper up front, and a 240mm disc at the rear.

In terms of features, the new model will likely retain the same 5-inch TFT display found in the outgoing 390 Duke. We also expect the three riding modes – Rain, Street, and Track – to remain unchanged. Additionally, it could be equipped with traction control, just like the 390 Duke.

The 2025 KTM RC 390 is expected to be showcased later this year and will be pitted against the TVS Apache RR 310Aprilia RS 457, and Yamaha YZF R3 when it launches in India. Some other KTM 390s that are slated to be launched in India this year are the Adventure SEnduro R and SMC-R.
