Our sister publication Autocar Professional has learned that Royal Enfield is developing a new model called the Scram 440, and it could launch in under a year from now. Internally codenamed D4K, this new bike will not be based on the upcoming 450cc liquid-cooled platform, but will instead be powered by an air- and oil-cooled 440cc engine derived from the 411cc engine seen in the Himalayan and Scram 411.

As a result, power and performance levels are likely to be considerably lower than we will see on the upcoming Himalayan 450, but this is, therefore, also likely to be a significantly more affordable model. And since this will fall under the Scram sub-brand, it will not be an off-road-focused motorcycle like the Himalayan.

At the moment, it is unclear whether this new Scram 440 will be sold alongside the existing Scram 411 or replace it. However, the latter is more likely. RE could continue to offer the Scram 411 in certain markets in order to present a more affordable scrambler option to buyers. As per our learnings, the Scram 440 is likely to be launched within the next 12 months. And going by how aggressive Harley-Davidson and Triumph have been with their pricing, you can expect Royal Enfield to react similarly and price the Scram 440 well.

This is only one of a vast number of new RE motorcycles that are being readied for launch. These span the entirety of the brand’s lineup, right from the updated J-platform Bullet 350 to new 750cc twin-cylinder models.
