The Bajaj Chetak had a slow start in the first couple of years on sale since its 2020 debut, but its success has grown rapidly from 2023 onwards. The electric scooter is now consistently fighting for the number 2 spot in the electric two-wheeler market, and the company is about to launch the biggest update for the Chetak yet.
- Gets a new chassis and bigger boot
- Design will be similar
- Expected to be priced near current scooter
The intention behind this update is to improve the scooter’s practicality. Rivals like the Ather Rizta, Ola S1 and TVS iQube all offer much bigger boots and Bajaj has been working on matching them in this regard. To do so, the company has designed a new chassis that moves the battery pack under the floorboard, which will liberate more cargo space.
The move to a new battery pack design may also increase the capacity, thereby resulting in a longer range. However, if this does happen, we don’t expect this to be a big increase. For reference, the Bajaj Chetak currently offers a claimed IDC range of between 123 and 137km of range, depending on the model.
Other aspects of the scooter are likely to remain constant, including the design. The Bajaj Chetak's design has found widespread acceptance from customers of all age groups, and the brand will not alter this formula. We may see new colour schemes, but that is likely to be the extent of the visual changes.
The new generation Bajaj Chetak electric scooter is expected to launch around mid-December. Prices are likely to stay close to the current model, which ranges between Rs 96,000 and Rs 1.29 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
