A few months after it debuted globally, Honda has now patented the design of the updated Africa Twin lineup in India.

    1. Adventure Sports now gets a more road-biased 19-inch front wheel
    2. Front fascia and side panels are redesigned
    3. Base variant unlikely to launch in India

2024 Honda Africa Twin design, power, India launch

While the 19-inch front wheel is sure to be the biggest talking point here, the Africa Twin’s face has been refreshed as well. Honda has made the front and the side panels ever-so-slightly sharper and those two new parts have been patented in India. The 2024 Africa twin also gets a slight bump up to the engine’s compression ratio, resulting in a peak torque figure of 112Nm at 5,500rpm from the 103Nm at 6,250rpm on the current bike.

The European bike features an adjustable seat height between 835-855mm but it remains to be seen if that seat height carries forward to our market. In India the Africa Twin comes with a lowered suspension setting that results in a more manageable 810-830mm seat height.

Coming to the patent of the base model that has also been patented in India, it looks like this is a textbook case of Honda protecting its Intellectual property. Honda has only sold the Adventure Sports variant in India ever since the Africa Twin grew in size from 998cc to 1,083cc. In fact, Honda has also patented the designs of the Forza 350 maxi-scooter, Hawk 11 cafe racer and the CBR250RR sportbike in India, despite no plans to bring these machines to our shores.

The current Honda Africa Twin Adventure Sports is priced between Rs 16.02 – 17.56 lakh (ex-showroom, Haryana), and with all the changes that the new bike brings, a price bump is expected.
