New Maruti Suzuki Ertiga launched at Rs 7.44 lakh

After a long wait, Maruti Suzuki has launched the second-generation Ertiga in India at Rs 7.44 lakh for the base petrol and Rs 10.90 lakh for the top-spec diesel (ex-showroom, Delhi). The MPV is being offered in a total of ten options (two petrol-manuals, two petrol-automatics and one diesel-manual) for buyers to choose from. Tentative waiting periods for petrol and diesel versions of the all-new MPV are two to four weeks.

The new Ertiga is based on the Heartect platform that also underpins a range of Maruti cars in India, include the Swift, Dzire, Ignis and Baleno. This has lead to the MPV being about 10-20kg lighter than the outgoing model. The new Ertiga is 4,395mm long, 1,735mm wide and 1,690mm high, with a wheelbase of 2,740mm. The MPV gets a 45-litre fuel tank and has a turning radius of 5.2 metres. Maruti offers five exterior colour options for the MPV - white, silver, grey, red and blue.

Powering the Ertiga is an all-new 1.5-litre petrol engine from the Ciaz sedan, which is good for 105hp at 6,000rpm and 138Nm of torque at 4,400rpm. The other engine on offer is Maruti’s staple 1.3-litre diesel motor which produces 90hp at 4,400rpm and 200Nm of torque at 1,750rpm. Both engines will come with Maruti’s SHVS hybrid technology, which are claimed to aid fuel efficiency. In terms of transmissions, both engines are mated to a 5-speed manual, with a 4-speed torque convertor automatic offered only with the petrol Ertiga.

The top-spec Z+ trims come well equipped with features such as Maruti Suzuki’s SmartPlay infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and navigation, rear parking sensors with camera, automatic climate control, push button start/stop, 15-inch alloys, leather-wrapped steering wheel and a height adjustable driver’s seat. Dual airbags and ABS are standard across all variants with ESP and hill-hold function being offered on the automatic variants. However, the new Ertiga does miss out on features such as LED headlamps with DRLs and diamond-cut alloy wheels.

Bookings for the new Ertiga have been commenced with deliveries due to start by the end of the month. The MPV will be retailed from Maruti’s Arena dealerships and will take on Mahindra’s Marazzo and Renault’s Lodgy in the Indian market.
