    2021 Mercedes GLC: What’s new?

The 2021 GLC is based on the facelifted model that made its India debut last year. Starting with the exterior, the 2021 Mercedes GLC is now available in two new exterior paint shades - Brilliant Blue and High Tech Silver. Cosmetically, there are no other changes to the SUV.

Inside, the most noticeable change is the incorporation of the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster in place of the 2020 SUV’s analogue cluster. The unit offers three display styles – Classic, Progressive and Sporty.

Another new feature that will draw attention will be the front seat massage function that can be controlled via the central touchscreen. The GLC is the company’s only model in India to get massaging front seats as standard - models like the Mercedes G-class offer a front seat massage function as a paid option.

The Mercedes Me Connect, Mercedes’ embedded SIM-based connected car tech too has been updated. The system now integrates Amazon Alexa and Google Home thus allowing owners to issue voice commands to the SUV via the voice assistant on their Android phones or Echo devices with a simple “Hey Google” or “Alexa”. Owners can now also start the GLC remotely via the Mercedes ME app on their smartphone or via voice commands over Google Home or Alexa. Additionally, the system now also displays locations of nearby parking lots on the navigation display should the user call for it and can remotely open and close the windows and sunroof.

Also new to the 2021 GLC SUV is the inclusion of a 360-degree camera.

In terms of pricing, the updated GLC is now dearer than the older SUV with the petrol and diesel SUVs now priced at a premium of Rs 1.56 lakh and Rs 2.02 lakh, respectively.

    2021 Mercedes GLC engines

There is no change to the engine line-up for the 2021 model year with the GLC continuing to be offered with a 197hp 2.0-litre turbo-petrol (GLC 200) and a 194hp 2.0-litre diesel engine (GLC 220d). Both units are paired with a 9-speed automatic gearbox as standard with the diesel additionally getting 4Matic all-wheel drive.

    2021 Mercedes GLC rivals

Coming to the rivals, the updated GLC will continue to go up against the BMW X3 (Rs 61.80-62.50 lakh) and the diesel-only Volvo XC60 (Rs 59.90 lakh). Also expected to join the list will be the Audi Q5 facelift which is expected to arrive later in the year.
