2021 Range Rover Velar: What’s new?

Starting with the mechanicals, a notable change to the Velar is the more powerful diesel engine. While still a 2.0-litre four-cylinder mill, the new unit now develops 204hp – up from 180hp, though torque remains unchanged at 430Nm. The new unit also features mild-hybrid technology.

The petrol engine meanwhile is the same 250hp, 2.0-litre turbocharged unit. Both engines come paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox as standard and all-wheel drive.

The other notable mechanical change to the luxury SUV is the inclusion of air suspension which should help improve the SUV’s ride quality.

Moving to the cabin, the Velar now comes with Jaguar Land Rover’s latest Pivi Pro infotainment system. Other new tech on offer includes a 360-degree camera – it previously only had a rear view camera, active road noise cancellation and a PM 2.5 filter for the cabin air ionisation system.

    2021 Range Rover Velar: rivals

The updated Range Rover Velar will continue to rival luxury SUVs like the Jaguar F-Pace, Mercedes GLE Coupe and the BMW X6.

The carmaker’s India website also mentions that the Range Rover Evoque and Land Rover Discovery Sport will get the new, more powerful diesel engine as well. Expect more details on updates to the two SUVs to come soon.
