We had previously reported that Maruti Suzuki has started accepting bookings for the updated XL6, which will launch on April 21. Now, details of its variants have surfaced. Like the outgoing model, the refreshed MPV will be offered in two trims –  Zeta and Alpha. It will be powered by a more fuel-efficient 1.5-litre petrol engine mated to a new optional 6-speed automatic gearbox with paddle shifters. The XL6 will continue to be sold through Maruti’s Nexa line of dealerships.

    • New XL6 to be available in Alpha and Zeta trims
    • Automatic gearbox will be available on both
    • Will get a more fuel efficient petrol engine and new 6-speed automatic gearbox

2022 Maruti Suzuki XL6: variant details

Like the outgoing model, the facelifted XL6 will come in two trims – Zeta and Alpha. Both will get the option of an automatic gearbox, along with the standard 5-speed manual, taking the total variant count to four. The carmaker is unlikely to offer a CNG variant at launch, but it could come later as Maruti is looking to offer CNG variants for their Nexa range of cars.

2022 Maruti Suzuki XL6: what will be new?

Positioned as a more premium alternative to the Ertiga, the new XL6 is unlikely to see any major styling tweaks on the outside, except for bigger alloy wheels that are similar to the ones seen on the Suzuki XL7 in Indonesia. It is under the skin where major updates sit in the form of a new K15C 1.5-litre DualJet petrol engine that makes 115hp, which is 10hp more than the outgoing K15B 1.5-litre unit.

The engine will be mated to a new optional 6-speed automatic gearbox, replacing the old 4-speed unit. Fuel efficiency is expected to be better than its predecessor, thanks to the new gearbox as well as Maruti’s tried and tested DualJet technology, which also sees duty in cars like the Celerio, Dzire and the newly launched Baleno

On the inside, expect a new upholstery and subtle changes to the trim, along with an all-new infotainment interface, similar to the Baleno. The Alpha variant will also get a 360-degree camera. A teaser video confirms that the new XL6 will not get a sunroof.

    2022 Maruti Suzuki XL6: rivals

Once launched, the new Maruti Suzuki XL6 will rival the likes of the Kia Carens, Mahindra Marazzo, and even face some competition from the updated version of its sibling – the Ertiga. Prices of the facelifted XL6 will be announced on April 21.
