BMW has launched the M4 facelift in India in its Competition guise, priced at Rs 1.53 crore (ex-showroom, India). This update brings with it subtle styling tweaks on the outside, a new interior, as well as an updated powertrain, albeit with a hike in price of Rs 5 lakh. The BMW M4 Competition comes to India as a full import and bookings can be made online or at BMW dealerships.

    1. M4 Competition is powered by 530hp, inline-6 engine
    2. Does the 0-100kph sprint in a claimed 3.5 seconds
    3. Rivals Audi RS5 Sportback and upcoming C 63 AMG

BMW M4 Competition: what’s new under the hood?

This being a performance model, let’s start with what’s under the hood. Powering the updated M4 Competition is a twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre, straight-six petrol engine, which produces 530hp and 650Nm of peak torque. The torque output has remained unchanged, but power is up by 20hp over the outgoing model.

The engine comes mated to a ZF-sourced 8-speed torque converter automatic gearbox as before, and it continues with the all-wheel drive setup as well. BMW claims a 0-100 kph sprint time of 3.5 seconds, which, despite the bump in power, is unchanged from before.

    BMW M4 Competition: exterior updates

Visually, the M4 Competition retains its signature look with the rather polarising kidney grille, but the updates are in the details. It gets new adaptive LED headlamps that also have a new signature for the LED DRLs and there are new tail-lamps inspired by the M4 CSL with an intricate woven LED pattern. You also get new 19-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels with blue, high-gloss brake callipers (red is optional) adding to the sporty appeal.

The M4 also gets a carbon fibre roof that not only reduces weight, but also helps lower the car’s centre of gravity. Additionally, there’s a gloss black base for the BMW logo and a silver surround for the M logo. An optional M Carbon exterior package includes inserts for the front air intakes, rear diffuser, the mirror caps and an exclusive CFP rear spoiler.

BMW M4 Competition: interior and features

On the inside, there’s a new three-spoke M leather steering wheel with a flattened bottom and red 12 o’clock marker (this can also be had in optional Alcantara), and plenty of carbon fibre accents all around. The dashboard has also been updated with BMW’s latest curved infotainment screens that comprise a 14.9-inch touchscreen and 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, running the latest BMW Operating System 8.5. Standard M sports seats with ventilation and heating adds to the convenience factor, and you also have new trim options to choose from.

The BMW M4 Competition rivals the Audi RS5 Sportback in India, although the latter is a four-door, as well as the upcoming Mercedes-AMG C 63 sedan.
