BYD India has launched the new eMax 7 MPV, priced from Rs 26.9 lakh for the entry-level Premium trim to Rs 29.9 lakh for the top-spec Superior trim. The eMax 7 is a 3-row electric MPV that is aimed squarely at the Toyota Innova Hycross Hybrid (Rs 25.97 lakh-30.98 lakh) in the Indian market. Deliveries are expected to begin in the coming weeks.

    3. Premium trim gets 55.4kWh battery (420km range)

BYD eMax 7: what exactly is it?

Essentially a heavily updated iteration of the e6 electric MPV that has been around since 2021, the eMax 7 gets a subtle facelift on the outside, powertrain updates, and a long list of features. It effectively replaces the e6 in BYD India’s line-up and has gone on sale in two trims, each with 6- and 7-seat layouts. Bookings opened on September 20 for a token amount of Rs 51,000.

On the outside, the eMax 7 sports mildly altered headlamps and tail-lamps, while the bumpers get a completely new design, with added chrome elements at both ends. There are also new design 17-inch alloys, shod in 225/55 R17 tyres. It's available in four colour options: Quartz Blue, Harbour Grey, Crystal White, and Cosmos Black.

Inside, the biggest update is the larger 12.8-inch floating touchscreen, up from 10.1-inch on the e6. The eMax 7 has soft-touch materials all around, including on the dashboard panels. The centre console has been slightly revised and features two wireless charging pads, some new switchgear, and a new drive selector lever. It also gets a new steering wheel but retains analogue dials with a 5-inch LCD MID for the instrument cluster. Of the two variants, the top-spec eMax 7 Superior comes with Level 2 ADAS tech, a fixed panoramic glass roof, powered and ventilated front seats, frameless front wipers, and roof rails, among other bits. Six airbags, front and rear disc brakes, and a 360-degree camera are standard on both trims.

    BYD eMax 7: battery, range

Each variant of the eMax 7 comes with a battery pack option: the Premium gets a 55.4kWh unit with an NEDC range of 420km, while the Superior has a 71.8kWh unit with 530km of range. While the Premium trim gets 163hp and a claimed 0-100kph time of 10.1 seconds, the Superior has 204hp and a claimed 0-100kph time of 8.6 seconds; however, both get 310Nm. That’s quite a significant step up from the 95hp and 180Nm outputs of the outgoing e6 MPV. BYD claims a top speed of 180kph for both variants of the eMax 7.

While both trims get a 7kW AC charger as standard, the Premium's battery is capable of 89kW DC fast charging, while the Superior's pack is rated at 115kW. Like the rest of BYD's range, the eMax 7 is capable of vehicle-to-load charging.

BYD provides an 8-year/1.6 lakh km standard battery warranty, while the motors get an 8-year/1/5 lakh km warranty.
