BYD has launched the Seal electric sedan in India at Rs 41 lakh for the entry-level Dynamic variant, going up to Rs 53 lakh for the top-spec Performance AWD variant (ex-showroom, India). The Seal is the Chinese carmaker’s third model in India after the e6 MPV and Atto 3 SUV, and will be brought in as a full import.
BYD has commenced bookings for the Seal for a token amount of Rs 1.25 lakh, and those who book before March 31, 2024, get a few additonal services such as free installation of a home charger, a 3kW portable charging box and 6 years roadside assistance, among others.

BYD Seal powertrain, range and battery
The Seal is available with two battery options – 61.44kWh and 82.56kWh. Both batteries have BYD's patented blade technology. The smaller battery pack is paired with a single motor on the rear axle that produces 204hp and 310Nm of torque, and has a claimed range of 510km (NEDC cycle).
Variants with the larger 82.5kWh battery are available in both RWD and AWD configurations. In single motor RWD guise, the Seal produces 312hp and 360Nm of torque, while in dual-motor AWD configuration it produces 530hp and 670Nm of torque. Claimed range stands at 650km for the former and 580km for the latter. In its top-spec guise, BYD claims a 0-100kph sprint time of just 3.8 seconds.
The Seal is capable of charging at speeds of up to 150kW, with 10-80 percent charge taking 37 minutes, while a regular 11kW AC charger takes 8.6 hours to charge from 0-100 percent. The Seal is capable of Vehicle to Load (V2L) charging; BYD says you could use it for camping and outdoor activities.

The carmaker is providing an 8 year/1,60,000km warranty on the battery and an 8 year/1,50,000km warranty on the motor and motor controller unit.
BYD Seal exterior design
The Seal is 4,800mm long, 1,875mm wide and 1,460mm tall. It inherits design cues from the Ocean X concept from 2021, and follows BYD’s “ocean aesthetics” design language. The sedan also features interesting details like a coupe-like all-glass roof, flush-fitting door handles, four boomerang-shaped LED daytime running lights, swept back LED headlamps that have a C-shaped element extending into the bumper and a full-width LED light bar at the rear. The 19-inch alloy wheels with a petal-like design look very attractive. The Seal is offered in four colours in India – Arctic Blue, Aurora White, Atlantis Grey and Cosmos Black.
BYD Seal interior and features
On the inside, the BYD Seal gets a rotating, 15.6-inch infotainment in the centre console, with the driver getting a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a heads-up display. Like the Atto 3, the interior of the Seal is rather flamboyant with flowing lines and textured surfaces. The centre console houses a crystal toggle drive selector and a few physical controls for functions like heated windscreen, volume control for the audio system as well as two wireless charging pads. The rear seats get 60:40 split-folding function, there's a powered tailgate and a 50-litre frunk for extra storage.
The Seal is packed with features like an 8-way electronically adjustable driver’s seat with memory, heated and cooled front seats, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, leatherette upholstery, dual-zone AC, 10 airbags, ABS with hill hold, automatic wipers, a 360-degree camera as well as ADAS tech. The Seal also gets a 5-star safety rating from Euro NCAP.
BYD Seal rivals
There aren't any electric sedans at this price point, but the Seal will compete with similarly priced EVs such as the Hyundai Ioniq 5 (Rs 45.95 lakh), Kia EV6 (Rs 60.95 lakh-65.95 lakh) and the Volvo XC40 Recharge (Rs 57.90 lakh).
