Hyundai’s luxury arm, Genesis, is readying not one, but three new SUVs for international markets. The company is expected to introduce its first SUV, the GV80, which will be based on the Kia Telluride/Hyundai Palisade, both of which are full-size SUVs. This flagship SUV will be aimed primarily at left-hand drive markets.
The brand’s second SUV has been spied on test in Korea. This new SUV is the slightly smaller GV70 and is expected to be sold in both right- and left-hand drive markets. It will share its underpinnings with the next-gen Tucson but will come with a completely different body and interior bits.
The GV70 will be powered by at least two petrol engine options and a diesel unit as well. It will rival the likes of the BMW X3, the Jaguar E-Pace, the Audi Q5 and the Mercedes GLC SUVs globally.
As reported by us a few days ago, Hyundai could introduce the Genesis luxury brand in India with the GV70 SUV. As the Korean brand has no issues with production capacity in the country, it is keen on bringing Genesis’ products via the CKD route, which will help them achieve competitive pricing.
Expect the production-spec Genesis GV70 to see an official unveil sometime next year.
