The Mahindra XUV 3XO compact SUV has scored a 5-star rating in both adult and child occupant protection in Bharat New Car Assessment Program's (BNCAP) safety tests. BNCAP tested the XUV 3XO's AX7 L and MX2 variants but the ratings are applicable on the entire line-up. Apart from the XUV 3XO, BNCAP has also released crash test ratings for the popular Thar Roxx SUV and the XUV400 EV.

    • XUV 3XO gets 29.36 points for adult protection
    • Secures 43 out of 49 points for child protection
    • Thar Roxx, XUV400 BNCAP get high ratings too

Mahindra XUV 3XO adult occupant protection

The XUV 3XO scored 29.36 points out of 32 in adult occupant protection (AOP). The report noted that the protection offered to the driver’s and the passenger’s head and neck region was good, although protection to the driver’s chest was adequate, and left leg was marginal, likely due to impact with the centre console area.

The XUV 3XO secured 13.36 out of 16.00 in the frontal offset deformable barrier test. In the side movable deformable barrier test, it secured 16.00 out of 16.00, offering good protection overall. In the side pole impact test, it was rated OK. The XUV 3XO also complied with ESC test requirements. Bharat NCAP, however, does not specify is the body shell was stable and capable of withstanding further loadings.

Mahindra XUV 3XO child occupant protection

In the child occupant protection, the XUV 3XO secured 43 out of 49 points. It got full points in the dynamic test (24/24) and CRS installation test (12/12) and scored 7 out of 13 in the vehicle assessment test. Both the 18-month-old and the 3-year-old child dummies were tested in rearward-facing child seats positioned in the front passenger seat, secured by ISOFIX anchorages and a support leg.

    Mahindra XUV 3XO safety features

As standard, the XUV 3XO comes equipped with six airbags, three-point seatbelts with reminders for all passengers, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), ISOFIX anchors for rear outboard seats and a passenger-side airbag cut-off switch. The XUV 3XO also complies with AIS-100 pedestrian protection norms. Its top-spec variants even have an ADAS suite.

Its direct rival, the Tata Nexon, was tested by BNCAP last month, and it scored 29.41 out of 32 in AOP and 43.83 out of a maximum possible 49 points for COP. Meanwhile, the XUV 3XO's predecessor, the XUV 300, had not only secured five stars but it had also registered the highest AOP and COP scores for any made-in-India vehicle tested by Global NCAP back in January 2020.
