Interestingly, the demand for the diesel XUV700 remains very strong. In fact, as per the company data, it has only grown. Diesel variants accounted for 74 percent of the model’s April-July sales this year, up from around 70 percent in the corresponding period last year.

In FY2024, the XUV700’s sales surged 19 percent to 79,398 units and comprised 27 percent of Mahindra’s total sales, making it the model’s best fiscal. The XUV700 ranked second among 11 executive midsize SUVs, behind the leader, Mahindra’s Scorpio (1,41,462 units).

So far this fiscal, the XUV700 (24,839 units) is the fourth-highest-selling Mahindra. The Scorpio twins (53,068 units) lead the charge, followed by the XUV300/3XO (32,501 units) and the Bolero (31,858 units). With the festive season set to start soon, one can expect the XUV700 to achieve even better traction in the market.

    Mahindra XUV700 prices, variants

Mahindra sells the XUV700 in both 5- and 7-seater configurations, with several powertrain options. There are 44 variants, of which 19 are petrol and 25 are diesel.

The 2.0-litre turbocharged mStallion engine powers the petrol XUV700, producing 200hp and a meaty 380Nm of torque and comes mated to either a 6-speed manual or an automatic gearbox.

The diesel XUV700s are available with the 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine in two different states of tune: 155hp with 360Nm of torque (with the base MX trim) and 185hp with an impressive 420Nm of torque. The diesel automatic variant gets 450Nm of torque. Mahindra also offers the XUV700 with the all-wheel-drive option for the AX7 and AX7L trims.

The XUV700 has a very wide price range, starting from Rs 17.23 lakh for the base 2.0P MX (5-seater) manual petrol to Rs 32.35 lakh (on-road) for the 2.2D AX7 AT AW L (7-seater). So, it rivals both 5- and 7-seater SUVs such as the Tata Harrier and Safari, MG Hector Plus and the Hyundai Alcazar.

    Mahindra XUV700 production

Given the strong demand for its SUVs, particularly the XUV700, Mahindra has outlined plans to increase output further. The company has confirmed that it aims to raise production capacity to 64,000 units per month or 7,68,000 units per annum by FY2025-end and 72,000 units a month or 8,64,000 units per annum by 2026-end.

In April-July, Mahindra ramped up the XUV700’s production by 5 percent over the year-ago period to 23,168 units, with April seeing the highest monthly rollout of 6,353 units this fiscal. In June, the company announced that the XUV700 had crossed the two lakh production milestone.
