Maruti Suzuki has announced that monthly sales of its CNG-powered cars and SUVs have crossed the 50,000 mark, with 53,431 units sold in September. That’s a 36.1 percent growth over the year-ago period. The company was the first to introduce factory-fitted CNG in its popular Wagon R hatchback in 2010.

    2. Festive discounts available on Wagon R, S-Presso CNG this month

Maruti CNG line-up now has 14 models

After exiting the diesel segment in April 2020, the company today offers CNG across most of its entire range, including models such as the Alto K10, S-Presso, Celerio, Dzire, Ertiga, Brezza and Grand Vitara. Only the Jimny, Ignis and Invicto don’t have CNG variants.

Also, the new Swift CNG has clocked 4,471 units in its first month. “We will register a significant growth of 50-60 percent on the latest Swift CNG compared to the previous iteration of the model,” said Partho Banerjee, the head of marketing and sales at Maruti Suzuki India.

In the first six months (April-September) of the ongoing financial year (FY25), Maruti has registered sales of 2,94,207 units for its CNG models, which contributed 27.66 percent to its overall sales of 10,63,480 units.

If the company maintains its monthly CNG car sales average of 50,000 units, it is well on its track of achieving its target of selling 6 lakh CNG cars annually by March 2025. “We have taken a target for every third car in our portfolio to be a CNG model. We aim to cumulatively hit 6 lakh CNG sales in FY25,” Banerjee highlighted.

While models such as the Ertiga CNG saw strong demand and wait times until a few months ago, Maruti says the supply situation has significantly improved now, and most cars are available almost immediately or within a few weeks, depending upon variant or colour preferences of the customer.

In order to push sales this festive season, the brand is offering a slew of discounts on almost all of its models, including CNG-powered iterations of the S-Presso and Wagon R, among others.
