The Ertiga, Maruti’s popular three-row MPV, has crossed the one million-unit sales mark. The Ertiga went on sale back in 2012 and it took eight years and nine months for the MPV to achieve this milestone. Maruti says the last one lakh units of the Ertiga were sold in just eight months.

    1. Ertiga went on sale first in 2012
    2. Currently in its second generation
    3. Gets four variants, two powertrain options

When launched in 2012, the Ertiga created its own niche in the segment offering a more value-for-money proposition than the more expensive Toyota Innova. Back then, it was also available with the popular 1.3-litre Fiat-sourced diesel engine that helped the MPV secure a hefty chunk of sales. The second-gen Ertiga, which was launched in 2018, did get the 1.3-litre diesel as well as an all-new 1.5-litre diesel engine. However, the Ertiga diesel is now a history, thanks to Maruti pulling the plug from all diesel-powered cars as BS6 emissions norms kicked in.

The Ertiga currently is available with a 1.5-litre petrol and a CNG powertrain option and despite newer rivals like the Kia Carens and Renault Triber at the lower end, the MPV continues with its supremacy in the market.

Maruti says the Ertiga has a significant portion of first-time buyers, constituting up to 41 percent of its customer base. Priced between Rs 8.69 lakh- Rs 13.03 lakh, the Ertiga is available in four variants, LXI(O), VXI(O), ZXI(O) and ZXI+. Powering the Ertiga is a 1.5-litre, K-series petrol engine coupled to a mild-hybrid system mated to a 5-speed manual or a torque convertor automatic gearbox.

As the Ertiga continues to soldier on, Maruti is readying a slew of new hybrid and EV powertrains for its future products like the eVX and a few others.
