The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara’s three-row version has been spotted testing again, this time right outside the carmaker’s production plant in Kharkhoda, Haryana. As Autocar India exclusively reported over two years ago, the three-row Grand Vitara is internally codenamed Y17 and will likely make its debut in the latter half of 2025.

    1. Grand Vitara three-row features a refreshed design for daytime running lights
    2. The alloy wheels also get a new design, and the rear gets connected tail-lamps
    3. Engine options are expected to be retained from the standard Grand Vitara

Maruti Grand Vitara three-row: what's new?

Previous spy shots of the seven-seater Grand Vitara hinted at a redesigned fascia, with headlights that look similar to that of the upcoming e Vitara. The latest images don't show off much of its front end, but the lighter camouflage helps make the wing-shaped daytime running lights more discernable, with the main headlights placed lower down on the bumper.

The alloy wheels seem to sport a new design, and the side profile undoubtedly looks longer than the five-seat version’s. Further back, there’s a sizeable rear overhang above which a large quarter glass area can be seen, as is typical of seven-seaters. The test mule’s rear is not revealed much apart from the connected tail-lamps inspired by the e Vitara.

This time, there are no images of the interior, but as per the earlier sightings, the SUV will get a redesigned dashboard commanded by a large, free-standing infotainment screen.

    Maruti Grand Vitara three-row: powertrains

Since the three-row Grand Vitara will utilise the same Global C platform as the standard Grand Vitara, the SUV is expected to carry forward the latter's 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol and 1.5-litre petrol-hybrid powertrains, most likely with the same transmission options. However, the added weight of the three-row seating arrangement may result in a slight dip in performance and fuel efficiency

Maruti Grand Vitara three-row: India launch and rivals

The three-row Grand Vitara is expected to break cover sometime near the end of 2025 as the first model to be produced at the company’s Kharkhoda plant. The SUV will slot in below the Invicto in Maruti Suzuki’s model portfolio and compete with the likes of the Hyundai Alcazar, Tata Safari, Mahindra XUV700 and MG Hector Plus.
