The fourth-gen Maruti Suzuki Swift is continuing its predecessor's good run in the Indian market, with the brand saying that in the first month of sales, it has despatched 19,393 units of the new hatchback to dealers. Launched on May 9 from Rs 6.49 lakh, Maruti has received over 40,000 bookings for the new Swift.

Maruti Swift variants in-demand
Maruti Suzuki has revealed that of the bookings made for the new Swift, the mid-spec VXI and VXI (O) variants account for 60 percent, while the entry-level LXI contributed 11 percent. The pricier Swift ZXI and ZXI+ trims are said to have contributed 19 percent to the total number of bookings. For a breakdown of the new Swift’s variant-wise features, click here.
New Swift AMT sees relatively subdued demand
Only 17 percent of new Swift buyers are opting for the AMT-equipped variants, which are available from the mid-spec VXI trim onwards. Of the total bookings, the Swift VXI AMT contributed 10 percent, while the ZXI and ZXI+ AMTs had a 7 percent share.
For now, the new Swift is only powered by the 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine making 82hp and 112Nm of peak torque. It comes with a 5-speed manual, which is rated at 24.8kpl by ARAI, and a 5-speed AMT option that has a fuel efficiency figure of 25.75kpl. The Japanese brand has confirmed that a CNG variant will be introduced in the coming weeks, but did not offer a definitive timeline for it.
