We first reported to you about Maserati’s plans to launch the MC20 supercar in India in July 2021, and now, nearly two years since then, we finally have its price. The Maserati MC20 has been priced at Rs 3.69 crore (ex-showroom, India), and that’s before you start ticking the options boxes.

The MC20 is the first all-new launch from Maserati in India in several years, and rivals the likes of the Porsche 911 Turbo S, Lamborghini Huracan and Ferrari 296 GTB.

    • MC20 is powered by 630hp, 3.0-litre V6 engine
    • Has a claimed 0-100kph sprint time of 2.9 seconds
    • First Maserati in over 20 years with in-house-developed engine

The MC20 was originally slated to arrive in India much earlier in 2022. However, after much delay, it will finally start reaching customers with the first unit slated to be delivered in May 2023, our dealer sources have confirmed.

    Maserati MC20 engine and performance

Essentially a spiritual successor to the MC12 supercar from 2004, the mid-engined MC20 is the brand’s first car in over 20 years to feature an in-house-developed engine. The unit, named Nettuno, is a 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged V6 engine pumping out 630hp and 730Nm of torque. Power is channelled to the rear wheels via an 8-speed, dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

Maserati claims a 0-100kph sprint time of just 2.9 seconds and a top speed over 325kph. The MC20 makes extensive use of carbon fibre and other lightweight materials, resulting in a claimed kerb weight of less than 1,500kg, giving it a power-to-weight ratio of more than 420hp per tonne.

    Maserati MC20 exterior and interior

The design of the MC20 is clearly inspired by the original MC12, and as such, boasts of a traditional sports-coupe silhouette. It has a rather clean look, with flowing lines and minimal use of aerodynamic appendages, save for a small rear spoiler for improved downforce. What’s particularly attractive are the butterfly doors that lead you into the interior where the minimalist theme continues.

Uncluttered by aggressive lines and textures, the interior is rather simple and draped in carbon-fibre Alcantara or leather. There’s a 10-inch digital instrument display and a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system, while the carbon fibre-covered central console features only the drive mode selector, a wireless smartphone holder, infotainment controls and a few other small functions.

    Upcoming Maserati launches

Following the MC20 coupe, Maserati is also expected to bring its convertible version, the MC20 Cielo, at some point in the future. Also on the cards for India is the Levante hybrid SUV, which too was supposed to arrive in 2022, but has been delayed since. Maserati’s new baby SUV, the Grecale, too is on cards for India, but is only expected to arrive much later.

We have had the pleasure of driving the MC20 already at the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia, about which you can read here.
