Mercedes-Benz India has launched the Maybach EQS electric SUV at Rs 2.25 crore (ex-showroom) – its first-ever electric offering with the Maybach badge and the second most expensive e-SUV in the Indian market after the Lotus Eletre. To distinguish itself from the standard EQS SUV, it has Maybach-specific design, features and tech upgrades.
- First-ever Mercedes-Maybach EV in India
- Offered in top-spec 680 trim only
- Rivals Lotus Eletre on the price front
Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV exterior, interior
The Maybach EQS SUV, which is now the brand’s flagship e-SUV, measures the same as the standard version of the SUV but with more bling and branding. The massive black grille panel now has vertical chrome-plated strips, creating the Maybach waterfall grille. Also, the panel, being made out of indium, allows radar beams to permeate through, so there’s no unsightly radar panel visible. The three-pointed star moves to the bonnet’s top. The SUV also gets a trademark Maybach dual-tone paint scheme, which is optional.
Inside, the layout is the same as the EQS SUV, with a triple-screen display but with Maybach-specific start-up sequences. The rear-seat entertainment package comprises two 11.6-inch displays on the back of the front seats. Also placed at the rear is an MBUX tablet, which can even be used outside the vehicle.
The Maybach EQS SUV gets two optional packages, namely the Chauffeur package that adds to the rear passengers’ seating comfort and the First-Class Rear package, which includes thermal cup holders, a shelf for the MBUX rear tablet, four USB-C ports and two HDMI interfaces. Optional add-ons include folding tables, a cooling compartment and silver-plated champagne goblets.
Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV powertrain, specs, range
In India, the Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV is only available in the 680 trim. Its dual electric motor setup produces a total of 658hp and 950Nm of torque, feeding power to all four wheels through the 4Matic AWD tech as standard. The EQS 680 can sprint from 0kph to 100 in just 4.4 seconds before topping out at 210kph, and it has a WLTP-certified range of up to 611km on a single charge.
With the help of a 200kW DC fast charger, the Maybach EQS SUV’s 122kWh battery can be charged from 10 percent level to 80 percent in 31 minutes. Mercedes says that 300km of range can be achieved in 20 minutes of charge. The Maybach EQS has no direct rivals here and gives some competition to the Lotus Eletre on the price front.
