A facelift for the MG Gloster, which has been around in India since 2020, is being readied for market launch. Though the updated SUV is still some time away – sources tell us that the MG Gloster facelift will most likely go on sale by the end of this year.

    • Gloster facelift to get all-new front styling
    • Will get minor design tweaks at the back
    • No mechanical changes are expected

MG Gloster facelift: what to expect?

The Gloster SUV is actually based on the Maxus range of SUVs sold by parent SAIC in markets like China. This SUV is also sold as the LDV D90, in right-hand-drive layout, in some markets like Australia. The test mule seen in India seems to be the updated LDV D90 SUV, which is already on sale in Australia.

The Gloster facelift gets a much more angular nose with a larger grille that is more squarish than before. The headlamp setup has now changed to a two-layer version, similar to what we see on the Hector, and the grille gets multiple square elements that are finished in satin black. There are two additional vertical elements on the grille on each corner that look like faux air inlets, finished in a contrast shade.

The refreshed SUV also gets more cladding across the body with some variants getting a contrast matte black finish to give the SUV a more rugged look. At the back, changes are minimal save for some added plastic bits on the tailgate, slightly restyled tail-lamps and a new-look bumper.

For India, we expect MG Motor to add more chrome bits to the updated Gloster, just like what we see on the current SUV and other MG products like the Hector and Astor SUVs. We don’t expect any changes under the hood for the Gloster and the current powertrain option – a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine offered with 4X2 and 4X4 options.

MG Gloster facelift: India launch timeline

Sources tell us that the current Gloster will most likely get another minor tech-related update in the coming months and the full-blown facelift, which has been seen in these spy shots, will come only by the end of this year.
