MG Motor has announced its new service programme called the MG Service on Wheels that offers its customers get basic repairs and maintenance for their MG cars done from their homes. This new service will operate using a mobile workshop that will be equipped with basic machinery required by the service personnel.

The MG Service on Wheels’ pilot programme has been introduced in Rajkot, Gujarat, and will be introduced in other parts of the country, says the brand. The new initiative “will cover most service operations that are otherwise provided only in a workshop,” MG says.

The mobile workshop will come with a hydraulic scissor lift attached to a hydraulic power pack, air compressor, digital oil dispenser, waste oil collection tank and a pneumatic line with a filter-regulator-lubricator (FRL) unit. The workshop will also have a provision for spare parts, wheel balancer, electronic control box and a first-aid box.

Other brands like Maruti Suzuki, Tata, Hyundai and the now-defunct Ford also offer similar services. Such services help make maintenance easy for the car owner as it reduces the hassle of visiting the service centres during weekdays and reduces customer load for service centres on the weekends. Furthermore, it can also help reduce the infrastructure requirements for service centres as most of the work can be done at the consumers' house.
