The Mini John Cooper Works (JCW) has been launched in India at Rs 43.50 lakh (ex-showroom). The range-topping JCW model has been brought in as a CBU and costs Rs 9.2 lakh more than the Cooper S, which retails at Rs 34.20 lakh.
Offered exclusively as a three-door hatchback, the Mini JCW gets the more powerful 231hp and 320Nm iteration of the 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine that powers the Cooper S (a 38hp and 40Nm increase). The Mini JCW packs in an 8-speed automatic gearbox, unlike the Cooper S, which gets a 7-speed dual-clutch unit.
Besides the bolder, more aggressive styling befitting a John Cooper Works model, the Mini JCW is available in 10 paint finishes, with four contrasting finishes for the roof and wing mirrors, four colour options for exterior highlights and 17-inch alloy wheels as standard. A special green paint option, adaptive Matrix LED lights, a panoramic sunroof and 18-inch alloy wheels are optional extras for the JCW.
The interiors mirror the sporty exterior theme, with most optional extras on the standard Cooper S being offered as standard. However, one can spec the Mini JCW with features such as four themes for the upholstery, front and rear parking sensors with a reverse camera, adaptive suspension, Apple CarPlay compatibility and navigation.
The Mini Cooper range in India now begins with the Cooper D three-door (Rs 29.90 lakh) and goes up to the JCW, with the Cooper S and Cooper D five-door (Rs 36.00 lakh) models sitting in between. The Mini Convertible is only available with the 192hp petrol motor and retails at Rs 38.30 lakh.
