We previously reported that bookings for the third-gen X1 are open at the dealer level for a token amount of Rs 50,000. Now, we have fresh details on the trims, powertrain options and features that will be offered on the BMW X1 in India.

    • New X1 to be available with both petrol and diesel engines
    • Will come in two trims – X Line and M Sport
    • Launch slated for January 28, bookings open

    New BMW X1: powertrain options

The new BMW X1 will be offered with a petrol (sDrive 18i) and a diesel (sDrive 18d) engine option in India. While the petrol is a 1.5-litre, three-cylinder unit producing 136hp and 230Nm of torque, the diesel mill is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder unit that produces 150hp and 360Nm of torque. Both engines will come mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, with power being sent to the front wheels.

BMW claims the petrol version can sprint from 0-100kph in 9.2sec, while the diesel can do the same in 8.9sec. The petrol returns a fuel efficiency of 15.03kpl, while the diesel returns 19.23kpl.

New BMW X1: trims and features

BMW will offer the X1 in two trims – X Line and M Sport – and they will get both powertrain options.

In terms of features, the third-gen X1 gets a curved infotainment display with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, 10.70-inch infotainment screen, 12-speaker Harmon Kardon sound system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, connected car tech, ADAS features and parking assist feature. The X Line variants will come with Sports seats as standard, while the M Sport variants will additionally get a massage function for the front seats.

Both trims will be offered with 18-inch alloy wheels, although the M Sport variants will get a sportier design.

New BMW X1: exterior and interior

The new BMW X1 gets a large, chrome-heavy kidney grille flanked by slim headlights with inverted L-shaped DRLs. In profile, it features chunky wheel arches and flush door handles, similar to the ones found in the new BMW 7 Series. In terms of dimensions, the new X1 is slightly larger than the outgoing model and is also longer than rivals like the Audi Q3. On the inside, it is significantly more upmarket than before. The cabin also offers more space for the rear-seat occupants and boasts of a large 500-litre boot.

    New BMW X1: competition check

The new X1, when launched, will take on other compact luxury SUVs like the Mercedes-Benz GLA, the facelifted Volvo XC40, and the new Audi Q3. Expect the new X1 to be marginally pricier than before, somewhere in the Rs 45 lakh-50 lakh range.
