New Skoda Superb powertrains
The new Superb shares its powertrains with the second-gen Kodiaq. It gets a choice of five engines – two petrol, two diesel and a plug-in hybrid (PHEV). The PHEV, which will be called the Superb iV, will get a 150hp, 1.5-litre TSI engine mated to a 25.7kWh battery. Combined, it will produce 204hp and will be mated to a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. Skoda says the Superb PHEV will have an electric-only range of more than 100km.
The same 1.5-litre TSI will also power the entry-level Superb, but here it will be paired with a mild-hybrid system and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The other engine on offer will be a 2.0-litre TSI, available in two states of tune – 204hp and 265hp. Both will get a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, but the latter will also get a four-wheel drive system.
Like the Kodaiq, the Superb will also get two diesel powertrains. One will be a 150hp, 2.0-litre diesel engine mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, while the other will be the same powertrain producing 193hp that's mated to a four-wheel drive system.
New Skoda Superb exterior, dimensions
While the images don’t reveal the full design of the upcoming Superb, it does hint at some elements. The Superb features Skoda’s new grille as well as slimmer LED headlamps and tail-lamps, which get Skoda’s new crystalline elements. While the Kodaiq houses its radar sensors for ADAS in the bumper, the Superb gets it in the grille. It also gets air curtains on either side of the bumpers.
The fourth-gen Superb measures 4,912mm in length – 43mm longer than the third-gen model. While the wheelbase remains the same at 2,841mm, the upcoming Superb is narrower by 15mm, measuring 1,849mm. It has also grown in height measuring 1,481mm, which is 12mm taller than before. The increase in height has also resulted in an increase in headroom, with the front passengers getting 11mm more space and the rear passengers getting 6mm more space than before. The new Superb has a 645-litre boot that's 20 litres more than before.
New Skoda Superb interior and features
Skoda hasn’t released any images of the interior, but it has revealed that the new Superb will get a new touchscreen, measuring up to 12.9 inches. Much like the Kodiaq, the Superb will also feature a steering column-mounted drive selector. Skoda also mentions that the interior will have a combination of manual as well as digital controls.
In terms of safety features, Skoda has added a bunch of ADAS features such as Turn Assist, which warns of potential collisions from oncoming vehicles while turning into side streets. It has also added Crossroad Assist, which detects traffic at intersections with minimal visibility. Skoda has updated its Front Assist system to include Predictive Cyclist Protection. The Superb now gets 10 airbags, which includes a central airbag between the front seats.
Skoda Superb in India
Until recently, Skoda sold the third-gen Superb in India and it was priced between Rs 34.19 lakh-37.29 lakh (ex-showroom, India). Skoda has confirmed that it will reintroduce the Superb in India, but it will first come back as the third-gen model with a BS6 Phase 2-compliant. However, it remains to be seen when the fourth-gen Superb will make its India debut. The Superb does not have any direct rivals in India currently.
