Volkswagen is all set to introduce the third-generation Tiguan SUV in the coming months, and ahead of its global debut, its final design has been leaked. While earlier, the design was partially visible through camouflaged images shared by Volkswagen, the new leaked images show the full exterior and interior design of the Tiguan.

    2. It will get VW’s DCC Pro active suspension control
    3. India to get Tiguan-based 3-row Tayron instead

    New Volkswagen Tiguan exterior

The images show that the upcoming Tiguan resembles the first-gen model more with its rounded design language, whereas the second-gen model has more sharp features. The new Tiguan will get darkened, HD Matrix headlights connected by a closed-off grille, which is likely to be illuminated and house a light bar. Underneath it, it gets a bigger, trapezoidal grille with three horizontal slats and the number plate housing, flanked by two big air intakes.

In profile, the new Tiguan replaces the second-gen SUV’s straight, connected lines with rounded, creases with a gap in the middle. Even the glasshouse is now more rounded than the outgoing Tiguan. The leaked images also show the presence of a sunroof, which will most likely be a panoramic unit that is also present in the current model.

At the back, the new Tiguan gets a full-width panel that connects the lights and the overall design looks similar to the Taigun SUV. Speaking of which, expect the Taigun facelift to borrow many design cues from the third-gen Tiguan.

    New Volkswagen Tiguan interior

The images also show the interior of the upcoming third-gen Tiguan but Volkswagen had already shown the interior a while back. It will get a dashboard design similar to the new ID.7 electric sedan and will have a 15-inch touchscreen. It is also expected to get a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster as well as head-up display placed in the windscreen instead of a pop-up unit.

The new Tiguan will also get a gloss black panel that runs across the width of the dashboard and houses the two screens and the aircon vents. In the centre console, the third-gen Tiguan will get thin AC vents, two cupholders and VW’s new ‘Driving Experience Control’ switch. This will be controlled by a rotary dial that will also house a screen and VW says it can control the drive modes, media volume and ambient lighting colours.

New Volkswagen Tiguan powertrain and platform

While VW hasn’t divulged much about the powertrains, it did mention that the upcoming Tiguan will get a diesel, turbo-petrol, turbo-petrol with mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains. Volkswagen has also mentioned that the plug-in hybrid Tiguan will have an electric-only range of 100km.

Underneath, the Tiguan will be underpinned by the MQB Evo platform and will come with the new generation of VW’s DCC Pro adaptive suspension control. This gets a two-valve shock absorber where one will control damping during compression and the other will control damping during rebound. These valves also open independently of each other, which helps the system to absorb bumps while also reducing body roll.

    Volkswagen Tiguan in India

As of now, there is no confirmation of the third-gen Tiguan coming to India. However, the all-new three-row Tayron will come to India around 2025 in limited numbers. It will be a replacement for the Tiguan Allspace and will have different styling. The Tayron will be assembled in India through completely knocked down (CKD) kits, unlike the Allspace which came in as a completely built unit (CBU).
