Ahead of its global debut next week, Skoda has shared exterior design sketches of the new Kodiaq SUV. These sketches come after the company earlier shared images of the interiors and powertrain details. The second generation Kodiaq will be available in both 5- and 7-seater models.
- Alloy wheel sizes will range from 17 to 20 inches
- D-pillar to be available in a ‘dark chrome’ finish
- The new 5-seater model will be 61mm longer
New Skoda Kodiaq exterior design, dimensions
The design sketches show us the exterior of the SUV, with the front getting the signature Skoda grille as seen on models like the Slavia and Kushaq. The Kodiaq will get a second-generation split LED matrix headlamp setup. The SUV will have boxy-like proportions complete with squared-off wheel arches. The wheels will be available in four sizes from a standard 17-inch to a more flamboyant 20-inch size.
Towards the rear, the company has revealed that the D-pillar will be available with the optional finish of ‘dark chrome’. Also new at the rear is the C-shaped tail-light design that was not visible in the earlier camouflage shots. Connecting the tail-lights is a red bar that has the Skoda lettering placed above it, as seen on other models by the company.
The new Kodiaq will be 4,758mm in length, making it 61mm and 59mm longer than before compared to the 5-seat and 7-seat versions, respectively. However, the height, width and wheelbase dimensions remain unchanged.
New Skoda Kodiaq interior and features
From the interior details that were revealed earlier, we know that the new Kodiaq will have physical controls for the HVAC system and other parameters, a trend that is slowly seeing a return to mass-production vehicles. The console consists of three knobs with the outer two controlling temperature and seat ventilation. The middle knob can control things such as volume, fan speed and driving modes as standard and will also come with a 12.9-inch touchscreen as well as a 10-inch digital instrument cluster.
New Skoda Kodiaq powertrain
The Skoda Kodiaq will be offered with a choice of petrol, diesel and PHEV powertrains. There will be two petrol engines offered, a 1.5-litre TSI engine with a mild hybrid system, and a 204hp, 2.0-litre TSI that will be equipped with a four-wheel drive system.
The two diesel powertrains that Skoda will offer consist of the 2.0-litre TDI engine mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox. This engine will be available in two states of tune, with the entry-level version churning out 150hp and the performance version, 193hp with a four-wheel-drive system.
The last powertrain on offer will be a plug-in hybrid, consisting of the 1.5-litre TSI engine combined with a 25.7kWh battery making a total of 204hp. This will be mated to a 6-speed dual-clutch auto gearbox. The company claims that the PHEV will have an electric-only range of more than 100km.
New Skoda Kodiaq debut, price and rivals
The second generation of the Skoda Kodiaq will make its global debut on October 4, 2023. The model is currently on sale in India in its first generation with a petrol engine and is priced from Rs 38.5 lakh to Rs 41.95 lakh. It rivals the likes of the Toyota Fortuner, MG Gloster and Jeep Meridian.
