Nissan will soon introduce the Magnite AMT in our market, and dealers have already started accepting bookings for the same. Dealer sources tell us that the Japanese brand will launch it at an aggressive starting price in order to undercut entry-level variants of the Punch and Exter AMTs, which are essentially a segment below.

Nissan Magnite AMT could be priced from around Rs 6.5 lakh

Nissan dealers have been indicating to customers that the Magnite AMT will cost around Rs 50,000-60,000 more than the corresponding manual variant. This means that the Magnite AMT's prices will start from around Rs 6.5 lakh. In comparison, the Punch AMT starts at Rs 7.5 lakh for the entry-level Adventure AMT variant, while the Exter AMT's prices start at Rs 8.09 lakh.

The Nissan though, gets beaten by both the sub-compact SUVs when it comes to engine size – Exter and Punch get 1.2-litre engines, while the Magnite makes do with a 1.0-litre unit that's not only down on displacement but also on power. The 1.2-litre petrol units make 88hp and 115Nm on the Punch, and 83hp and 114Nm on the Exter, which is higher than the Magnite's 72hp and 96Nm 1.0-litre unit.

Nissan Magnite AMT to be sold in four variants

Nissan has confirmed that the Magnite AMT will come in the XE, XM, XV and XV Premium variants. The Magnite is also expected to be down on features when compared to the Punch and Exter.

The Punch and the Exter are immensely popular models in the market with longer waiting periods than the Magnite. With the aggressive starting price for the AMT, Nissan is aiming for a slice of the automatic sub-compact SUV segment with its larger four meter offering and a comparatively shorter waiting period. Nissan dealers are promising Magnite AMT deliveries by October end at some locations.
