Nissan India will double its portfolio on August 1, 2024, with the introduction of the X-Trail SUV. To be brought in as a CBU, the Nissan X-Trail will be the Japanese brand’s flagship model in India, and be priced in the Rs 40 lakh-45 lakh (ex-showroom) region. Bookings for the model will open on July 26, for an amount of Rs 1 lakh. Read on to find answers to frequently asked questions about the upcoming India-spec Nissan X-Trail.

Does the Nissan X-Trail get the e-Power hybrid tech in India?

Nissan has opted to bring the X-Trail to India without the brand’s e-Power hybrid tech. For our market, the X-Trail comes with a 1.5-litre three-cylinder, turbo-petrol engine that features variable compression, and makes 163hp and 300Nm of peak torque. The engine comes with a 12V mild-hybrid system and is mated to a shift-by-wire 8-step CVT gearbox that can also be used with paddle shifters.

Is 4WD offered with the Nissan X-Trail?

While the SUV is available in international markets with an AWD system, for the Indian market, the Nissan X-Trail comes only in front-wheel-drive format.

Does the India-spec Nissan X-Trail get a sunroof?

Yes, the model that will go on sale here will get a dual-pane panoramic sunroof. Other feature highlights of the India-spec X-Trail include dual-zone climate control, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment, a 12.3-inch digital driver's display, wireless smartphone charger, and keyless entry and go.

Safety kit includes 7 airbags, auto headlamps/wipers, traction control, hill-start assist, front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera and even a limited-slip differential. Nissan India does not offer an ADAS suite with the X-Trail.

How big is the Nissan X-Trail compared to the Toyota Fortuner?

The new Nissan X-Trail measures 4,680mm in length, 1,840mm in width, and 1,725mm in height, and has a 2,705mm-long wheelbase. Compared to the Toyota Fortuner (LxWxHxWB: 4,795mm x 1,855mm x 1,835mm x 2,745mm), Nissan’s SUV is a bit smaller overall on every metric. The X-Trail is shorter and narrower, but taller than the monocoque-based SUV in its class, the Skoda Kodiaq.

The India-spec X-Trail will come with three rows of seats. The second row has 40/20/40 split-folding, sliding and reclining functions, while the third row gets 50/50 split-folding and reclining functions. However, our review of the X-Trail found that the last row is fit only for children, or best if folded down to create 585 litres of luggage space. The second row also folds flat to release a whopping 1,424 litres of space.
