Land Rover has announced prices for the much-awaited Range Rover Velar ahead of its official launch on January 20, 2018. Prices for the Velar SUV start at Rs 78.83 lakh for the base 2.0-litre diesel, going up to Rs 1.37 crore for the fully loaded variant.
The Velar is offered with a choice of three powertrains – a 179hp, 2.0-litre diesel, a 250hp, 2.0-litre petrol and the 300hp, 3.0-litre V6 diesel. The 2.0-litre Velar comes in eight trims, while the 3.0 gets nine variants. Line-up starts with the base variant, going up to S, SE, HSE, R-Dynamic, R-Dynamic S, R-Dynamic SE and the R-Dynamic HSE. Additionally, the Velar 3.0-litre diesel gets a First Edition at the top of its line-up. (Refer table for prices)
Interestingly, the Velar marks the debut of Jaguar Land Rover's 2.0-litre Ingenium petrol engine in India. The carmaker's range of Ingenium petrol engines, which also include 200hp and 300hp versions for the global market aside from the 250hp unit in the Velar for India, is said to deliver up to 25 percent more power than the engines they replace, while consuming up to 15 percent less fuel. The technologically advanced powertrains use a range of technologies such as an electro-hydraulic valvetrain, integrated exhaust manifold and a twin-scroll turbocharger.
Land Rover calls the Velar its most road-focused SUV yet. The Velar is positioned between the Evoque and the full-fat Range Rover Sport in the carmaker's line-up, but it will be a strict five-seater. However, the SUV receives Land Rover’s array of off-road technology, including Hill Descent Control (HDC) that comes as standard, the Terrain Response 2 and an active rear-locking e-differential. A standard ZF-sourced eight-speed automatic is paired with each engine and delivers power to all four wheels.
A highlight of the Velar's interior is the Touch Pro Duo infotainment system that uses two 10-inch touchscreens. Between them, these configurable displays reduce the switchgear to an absolute minimum, while the lower part of the centre console, ahead of the gear and Terrain Response selectors, is turned into a screen itself.
Deliveries of the Range Rover Velar are set to begin from end of January 2018.
