The production-spec Renault 4 hatchback will make its global debut at the upcoming Paris Motor Show this month. Dubbed the Renault 4 E-Tech Electric, this new model is actually an electric revival of yesteryear's popular Renault 4 hatchback.

    1. Renault 4 will be more than four metres long
    2. Sits on a born-EV platform
    3. Will share EV powertrain with larger Renault 5 hatch

New Renault 4: what do the teasers reveal

The new electric hatchback from Renault gets a crossover-ish look, but continues to share much of its styling with the concept that was shown back in 2022.

It gets retro looks with round headlamps and an angular stance that resembles the earlier Renault 4 to some extent. The rear gets vertically stacked tail-lamps that have three different sections, similar to the concept. The teaser also shows some of the side of the high riding hatchback: there's a good deal of body cladding that runs across the car along the wheel arches. The alloy wheels are large and shod with meaty tyres.

The new images also confirm the 4 will be offered with an optional retractable fabric roof, and it will also be the first Renault to feature a backlit front emblem. It also gets a roof-mounted mini spoiler, trapezoidal quarter rear windows, vertical over riders on the bumper, and three lines sculpted along the door sills.

The overall design also is in-line with the larger Renault 5 electric hatchback that was shown at Geneva motor show earlier this year, and the 4 EV and 5 EV also share the Renault Group’s Ampr Small EV platform. The two EVs are expected to have the same 2.54m wheelbase. Powertrain duties will be taken care of by the Renault 5’s three single-motor, front-wheel-drive powertrains, with outputs of 94hp, 121hp and 148hp, as well as 40kWh and 52kWh battery pack options.

While there is not much known about the interior, one cn expect the same dual-screen infotainment set-up as the larger Renault 5, but with a simpler dashboard design. Production of the 4 is expected to start next summer at Renault’s ElectriCity hub in northern France.

The Renault 4 is not expected in India anytime soon. The French brand is currently working on its all-new Creta rival in the form of the Duster SUV that will go on sale next year.
