    3. VW ID4 expected to launch in India as well

Skoda Enyaq iV India launch details

While rival brands like Hyundai, Kia, Tata and Mahindra have introduced at least one EV in India, Skoda is yet to enter the EV market and is planning to test the waters with the Enyaq iV. "We will start with the Enyaq which we will bring in the current fiscal year and would like to test the market," said Petr Solc, brand director, Skoda Auto India in a recent interaction. "If the market is positive, we will see how to bring more EV models."

The Skoda Enyaq iV is an all-electric SUV based on the VW Group’s MEB born-electric platform, which also underpins the likes of the Volkswagen ID 4 and Audi Q4 e-tron crossovers. Measuring 4,648mm long and 1,877mm wide, the Enyaq iV is only slightly smaller than the Skoda Kodiaq, but it is strictly a 5-seat SUV with two rows of seats.

Skoda Enyaq iV was seen in India a few months ago.

Skoda has been testing the Enyaq in India, and while the manufacturer has imported a bunch of prototypes with different power outputs, the model seen on tests commonly is the Enyaq iV 80x that gets a 77kWh battery that supports up to 125kW DC fast charging. This is the highest powertrain specification and comes with dual motors, one on each axle, giving it AWD capability and a total of 265hp. Skoda says the Enyaq iV 80x does the 0-100kph sprint in 6.9sec and has a WLTP-rated range of up to 513km.

VW ID4 being readied for India-entry too

Volkswagen India has been testing the ID 4 SUV, which shares the same underpinnings as the Enyaq, for the better part of a year now. However, it's launch is yet to be greenlit by Volkswagen’s global headquarters, and this is likely to be confirmed by May. Read more on that here.
