Tata Motors has confirmed that the Curvv SUV-coupe will launch in India on August 7. The Curvv will be the first mass-market SUV-coupe in India, serving as an alternative to midsize SUVs.

    1. Curvv to rival Creta, Seltos and Grand Vitara
    2. To offer petrol, diesel and EV powertrains

    Tata Curvv exterior, interior design

The Tata Curvv is based on the Nexon and has a similar design language. It will have Tata’s signature split-LED headlamp setup, lots of gloss-black cladding on the sides, a split tail-lamp setup and that distinct coupe-like roofline. EV and ICE models will likely be marked out by different-looking bumpers and LED light signatures. In terms of dimensions, the Curvv will be 313mm longer than the Nexon, with a 62mm longer wheelbase.

The Curvv will get a four-spoke illuminated steering wheel from the Harrier and Safari. The 10.25-inch screen for the instrument cluster and digital dials will be carried over too, although, the EV could be marked out by some unique switchgear and additional features; just as the Nexon EV has over the regular Nexon. Other features of note will likely include a wireless charger, a 360-degree camera, ventilated seats, connected car features and a panoramic sunroof.

    Tata Curvv powertrain options

The Tata Curvv will be powered by the new 125hp, 1.2-litre, three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine mated to both manual and automatic gearboxes. Meanwhile, diesel versions will use the Nexon’s 1.5-litre, four-cylinder unit. The electric version will use Tata’s Gen 2 acti.ev architecture, and while technical details are sparse, it will likely offer a 450-500km range.

    Tata Curvv expected price, rivals

Tata is expected to launch the Curvv EV first, with prices starting around Rs 20 lakh. This will position it above the Nexon EV and below the upcoming Harrier EV. The ICE version will launch some time after the EV, and could be priced around Rs 10 lakh-11 lakh. The Curvv EV will rival the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV, Maruti eVX and even the MG ZS EV, while the ICE will compete with midsize SUVs such as the Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara and Hyundai Creta.
