Tata Harrier, Safari facelift exterior and interior

The Harrier and Safari facelifts get all-new front and rear ends, which are now in line with the new Nexon, thereby giving the company’s SUV line-up a family look. Key details include full-width LED light bars at the front and rear, a reinterpretation of the split headlamp design, new bumpers with pronounced protrusions and some bold new colour options. Both SUVs are even available with up to 19-inch alloys on their top-spec trims. The Harrier and Safari are also a lot more differentiated from each other on the outside than before.

Tata Motors has also given the dashboard a comprehensive redesign. It gets larger infotainment screens that measure up to 12.3 inches, a new digital instrument cluster with navigation, Tata’s new four-spoke steering wheel with a backlit logo, and a completely new finish for the dashboard with leatherette padding, gloss black surfaces and even body coloured dashboard inserts depending on the Persona (a revised trim nomenclature that gets unique exterior and interior bits).

    Tata Harrier, Safari facelift features

The Harrier and Safari were already well equipped to begin with, but Tata has upped the ante with these facelifts. Both SUVs gain dual-zone automatic AC, 10-speaker JBL sound system, paddle shifters for the automatic variants, rear window sunshades, ventilated and powered front seats with memory function, and gesture-controlled powered tailgate. The Safari additionally gets seat ventilation for the second row too. Both SUVs now get up to 7 airbags, 6 of which are standard across the range.

Tata Harrier, Safari facelift powertrain options

Under the skin, the updated Harrier and Safari continue to be powered by a 170hp, 350Nm, 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox driving the front wheels. A major update is that both SUVs now get Electric power steering over the hydraulic system on the pre-facelift models. It even gets modes for the steering – Regular and Sport – that work in sync with the drive modes.

As before, the Harrier will continue to rival the likes of the MG Hector, Mahindra XUV700 and Jeep Compass, while the Safari rivals the likes of the Scorpio NHyundai Alcazar and MG Hector Plus.
