Tata Motors has introduced new entry-level variants for the Nexon, effectively bringing its starting price down. The move comes just days after Mahindra launched the XUV 3XO (XUV300 facelift). The Tata Nexon petrol is now priced from Rs 8 lakh, while pricing for diesel variants start from Rs 10 lakh.

Tata Nexon what's new?
The Nexon petrol now gets a new entry-level variant called Smart (O) priced at Rs 8 lakh. This variant is Rs 15,000 more affordable than the previous base variant, Smart. The new variants have been introduced to fend off competition from the lower variants of the XUV 3XO that starts at Rs 7.49 lakh.

Moreover, the prices for the Smart + and Smart + S variants have been reduced by Rs 30,000 and Rs 40,000, respectively. The Tata Nexon Smart + is now priced at Rs 8.90 lakh, while the Smart + S costs Rs 9.40 lakh.
The Tata Nexon diesel gets two new variants – Smart + and Smart + S. The former is the new entry-level variant, priced at Rs 10 lakh, while the latter costs Rs 10.60 lakh. With the introduction of the new variants, the base price of the Nexon diesel is down by Rs 1.10 lakh.

No mechanical changes have been made to the compact SUV. Tata offers the Nexon with a 120hp, 170Nm, 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine, and a 115hp, 260Nm, 1.5-litre diesel unit. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual, a 6-speed manual, a 6-speed AMT and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic. The compact SUV had also received five new automatic variants in March.
The Nexon gets features like a 10.25-inch touchscreen, a similarly sized fully digital driver’s display, wireless charger, ventilated and height-adjustable front seats, cruise control, a 9-speaker JBL sound system with a subwoofer, a voice-assisted electric sunroof and more. Safety kit consists of six airbags, hill-start assist, ESP, TPMS and a 360-degree camera.
The Tata Nexon rivals the Mahindra XUV 3XO, Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, Maruti Brezza and Fronx, Toyota Taisor, Nissan Magnite, and the Renault Kiger. Check out our fuel-efficiency comparison between all of these compact SUVs.
