The Toyota Camry Hybrid for India is set to get an update in the coming days. In late 2020, Toyota had revealed a facelift for the global-spec Camry and the refreshed model will “soon” arrive in our market, as per the automaker. The 2022 Camry will sport a few changes to the design and the features list, with little to no mechanical changes.
- Camry facelift gets an updated front fascia, new alloy wheels, reworked tail lamps
- 8-inch touchscreen replaced by a larger 9-inch unit
- Expect a slight premium over current model’s Rs 41.20 lakh price tag
2022 Toyota Camry Hybrid facelift: styling and feature upgrades
Toyota launched the eighth-gen Camry in India in January 2019. Underpinned by the TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) platform, the model brought in a bolder design language for Toyota’s premium executive sedan. And the facelifted model remains true to the form.
The updated Camry wears a reprofiled front bumper, with the wide grille now bookended by chrome accents. There are new designs on offer for the 18-inch alloy wheels. And at the back, the LED tail lamps get new inserts.
The cabin is a familiar affair, with the biggest update being the move to a 9-inch touchscreen, which replaces the older 8-inch unit. Toyota says that customers can also expect a snappier performance from the infotainment system with upgraded software on board.
Expect the incoming Camry to be well equipped, like the outgoing model which packs in three-zone climate control, 9-speaker JBL audio system, power-reclining rear seats, powered sunshades for the rear passengers, powered and ventilated front seats with a memory function for the driver’s seat, reverse camera, head-up display, nine airbags and a host of other safety systems that can be expected from a car of this class.
2022 Toyota Camry Hybrid: engine, gearbox details
The facelifted Camry is expected to continue with the hybrid system of its predecessor. As such, it will pack in a 178hp, 2.5-litre petrol engine mated to a 120hp permanent magnet synchronous motor, with a combined system output of 218hp. Gearbox duties will continue to be handled by a CVT gearbox.
With a hybrid system under the hood, the current Camry returns a claimed average of 23.27kpl, and the upcoming model can be expected to deliver a similar figure.
2022 Toyota Camry Hybrid: price expectation and rivals
The existing Camry Hybrid is priced at Rs 41.20 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), and the facelift will likely command a slight premium. With the Honda Accord Hybrid no longer on offer, the Toyota will continue to rival the Skoda Superb (Rs 32.85 lakh-35.85 lakh, ex-showroom, India) in our market.
