Toyota showcased the new Urban Cruiser EV at the Auto Expo 2025. This is Toyota’s version of the Maruti e Vitara, and while the brand is still calling it a concept, it has already been unveiled in production-spec form overseas. Following the e Vitara’s launch this March, Toyota will launch the Urban Cruiser EV in India in the second half of 2025.

Toyota Urban Cruiser EV exterior and interior

The Urban Cruiser EV is closely related to the e Vitara, but it gets changes to the soft parts and the face looks completely different from its Maruti counterpart. The Urban Cruiser EV’s design is more subdued and cleaner. It gets slimmer headlamps with a chrome band connecting the two units and a very neat-looking bumper with two vertical air vents at the edges. At the side and rear, however, the Urban Cruiser EV’s connection with the e Vitara is very evident as there are barely any changes.

The SUV displayed at the Auto Expo had tinted windows, so we didn’t get a look at the interior, but from images of the international-spec car, we know that the interior is very similar to the Maruti e Vitara. Save for the different logo, it carries over the same two-spoke steering wheel, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment and a 10.1-inch digital instrument cluster.

Toyota Urban Cruiser EV battery, range and powertrain

The Urban Cruiser EV gets two battery options – 49kWh and 61kWh. The smaller battery gets a front axle-mounted 143hp motor, while the larger battery packs a 173hp motor; torque is the same on both at 193Nm. Official range figures are not out yet, but expect over 500km from the larger battery pack.

Upon launch in the second half of 2025, the Urban Cruiser EV will join the buzzing new segment of midsize electric SUVs comprising the Hyundai Creta Electric, the Mahindra BE 6 and the Tata Harrier EV.
