Volkswagen Virtus: 50,000 sales and counting

The Virtus is based on the modular MQB A0 IN platform, which has been developed for the Indian market. It is one of the four Volkswagen Group products tailor-made for the country, with the other three being the Slavia sedan and the Kushaq and Taigun SUVs. These models, also known as the India 2.0 lineup, have accounted for approximately 18.5 percent of domestic volumes in just over three years since their introduction, according to Volkswagen India. The engine options on the Virtus include the 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre turbo petrol units mated to either a manual or an automatic gearbox.

The Virtus rivals the likes of the Honda City, Hyundai Verna and Skoda Slavia in the Indian market. The model is expected to get a mid-life facelift, but only by 2026. Read more on that here.
