BMW, Mini sell 7,089 cars in H1 2024 for highest-ever half-yearly sales

    SUVs contributed 54 percent of total sales; X1 was the bestselling SUV.

    BMW Group India recorded a growth of over 21 percent in the first half of 2024, driven by high demand for SUVs, 'Luxury Class' models and EVs. The group delivered 7,098 cars (6,734 BMWs and 364 Minis), alongside 3,614 motorcycles from BMW Motorrad.

    Notably, SUVs dominated, constituting 54 percent of total sales. BMW saw a 24% increase in SUV sales compared to H1 2023, with the X1 leading as the top-selling model with approximately 19 percent of sales. Meanwhile, in the sedan segment, the 3 Series maintained its position as the best-selling model, holding a 17 percent market share.

    Coming to EVs, BMW and Mini collectively sold 397 units in the first half of the year, with the flagship i7 sedan emerging as the bestseller. BMW Group's EV line-up in India includes six models: i7, iX, i5, i4, iX1, and the Cooper SE. Among these, the iX has been the most popular, with 1,000 units sold till date. BMW claims it is the first luxury carmaker in India to surpass the 2,000-unit mark for EV sales.

    Lastly, the top-rung luxury class, comprising vehicles such as the 7 Series, i7, X7 and the XM, witnessed a growth of 17 percent compared to last year, and made up 18 percent of total sales. The X7 was the bestselling model in this class.

    Mr Vikram Pawah, President of BMW Group India, said, “We have accomplished the highest ever half-yearly car sales and continuously maintained leadership in luxury electric car segment. The strong affinity for our vehicles is driven by our competitive edge in exclusive mobility paired with unmistakable driving pleasure and best-in-class innovations.”
