Honda Goldwing 50th Anniversary edition: what’s new

Honda is offering the Goldwing with new colours and badging. This 50th Anniversary Edition is available in two body styles overseas – Goldwing and Goldwing Tour – and with manual and DCT transmission options. While the standard Goldwing is a bagger, the ‘Tour’ variant features a rear top-box.

Honda only sells the Goldwing Tour in India, and the 50th Anniversary Edition brings in two new colours – metallic red and soft gold. Both colours feature refreshed graphics, a Goldwing logo across the saddles and a ‘50th Anniversary Edition’ badging on the fairing.

Owners will also receive a coffee table book showcasing the lineage and evolution of the Goldwing; the GL1800 owes its lineage to the first GL1000. Another hark back to the Goldwing’s legacy is a 1:12 scale model that's been cut in the middle, with the 2025 GL1800 on one side and the 1975 GL1000 on the other.

For 2025, Honda has also made wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay standard. The current GL1800 was launched back in 2018, and it was a complete departure from the older curvy design.

The current model gets a flat-six engine and a fairing, but the GL1000 featured a flat-four, liquid-cooled engine and no fairing. The flat-six engine debuted with the 1988 GL1500, which made it the first series production motorcycle to feature a six-cylinder engine. The Goldwing is the only bike to feature an airbag for the rider.

The current flat-six motor displaces 1,883cc and produces 126.4hp and 170Nm. In India, this engine is only offered with a 7-speed DCT with a reverse gear.

The standard Goldwing GL1800 is priced at Rs 39.70 lakh. It remains to be seen if Honda brings this special edition to India – dealers said they have not received an official notification when enquired.
