Volvo is set to launch the XC40 Recharge in India on July 26 and, as we've reported before, it will be locally assembled. The electric SUV that we will get is essentially the facelifted version of the XC40 Recharge, featuring a new iteration of the ‘Thor’s Hammer’ DRL and more aggressive bumpers. The XC40 Recharge will have two electric motors producing a total power output of 408hp and a claimed range of 418km.

Volvo XC40 Recharge: battery, range and power details

The Volvo XC40 Recharge boasts a 78kWh battery, which gives the SUV a claimed range of 418km on the WLTP cycle. It's capable of 150kW DC fast charging that can top the car from 10 percent to 80 percent in 33 minutes. On a more accessible 50kW fast charger, Volvo says the XC40 Recharge can charge 100 percent in about 2.5 hours.

The SUV has two electric motors on each axle producing 408hp and 660Nm of torque  more than double of the petrol-powered model. However, at 1,188kg, the XC40 Recharge is also heavier by 400kg.

    Volvo XC40 Recharge: features

The XC40 Recharge gets new infotainment and telematics from the Volvo XC60 facelift, gets an optional leather-free interior, and also adds sharper dials and the new Android-based infotainment system. Other equipment on offer includes a panoramic sunroof, wireless mobile phone charging, connected car tech, powered front seats with memory, and Level 2 Autonomous Driving capability.

Volvo XC40 Recharge: expected price and rivals

The XC40 Recharge will be assembled at the carmaker’s Hoskote plant near Bengaluru. This is likely to make the XC40 Recharge more competitively priced than other luxury EVs. On arrival, the XC40 Recharge will take on the recently launched Kia EV6 and the upcoming Hyundai Ioniq 5, which will also be locally assembled.
