To celebrate 50 years of BMW’s M Performance division, the carmaker has launched the M340i '50 Jahre Edition' at Rs 68.90 lakh (ex-showroom, India). The model features key cosmetic changes and is available exclusively in two BMW Individual paint shades – Dravit Grey and Tanzantine Blue. There are no changes under the skin to the limited-edition model. The M340i makes 387hp and 500Nm and goes from standstill to 100 in 4.4sec.

This launch is the first of 10 that BMW has planned as a part of their golden jubilee celebrations. BMW M340i 50 Jahre Edition: key highlights

Aside from the Individual paint shade options, the M340i 50 Jahre Edition gets exclusive cosmetic changes like the high-gloss black kidney grille, as well as blackened window surrounds, mirror caps and 19-inch M-alloy wheels. BMW is offering two new accessory packs exclusively for this limited edition – Motorsport Pack and Carbon Pack. The Motorsport Pack adds accessories like M Performance steering wheel, gear selector knob in alcantara, matte black rear spoiler, among others. The Carbon Pack, meanwhile, adds carbon enhancements to the exterior and interior. The model will also get an M emblem inspired by the one first featured on early BMW Motorsport race cars; the emblem design features semicircles in blue, violet and red.

Upcoming 50 Jahre Editions to feature iconic paint shades

Select upcoming ‘50 Jahre M Edition’ models will also feature historic BMW M paint finishes and upholstery options. Colours that will be on offer include Dakar Yellow, Fire Orange, Daytona Violet, Macau Blue, Imola Red and Frozen Marina Bay Blue. According to the brand, these colours refer to various eras in the history of BMW M.

In addition to the two accessory packs on the M340i, buyers will also be able to specify some of the forthcoming 50 Jahre Editions with the Racer’s Pack, which adds accessories like matte black rear spoiler, side sills and keyfob. The accessory selection in the packages will differ, depending on the model.

BMW M Certified dealerships coming to India

BMW also announced that they will be opening M Certified dealerships in India. Similar to Mercedes-AMG Performance centres, the M Certified dealerships will enable buyers to shop exclusively for everything related to the M brand, like cars, accessories and merchandise.

    BMW M: brief history

On May 24, 1972, the partnership agreement for BMW Motorsport GmbH was signed and it began operations with just 35 employees. The first car with an M badge was the iconic BMW M1, designed by Paul Bracq and Giorgetto Giugiaro, with only 456 units ever built. Since then, the division has been behind some of the most iconic BMW road cars, including the M3 E30, 850CSi, M5 E60 and the 1 Series M, to name a few. The first M car to come to India was the BMW M3 E92 in 2008.
